The
commission takes as its charge "Acting for Peace and

through Church and Society Work". Our responsibility
is to help our church members respond to pressing social
issues.
The
following are brief descriptions of current projects sponsored
by Church and Society:
- Acting as coordinators
for "A Church for All God's People", a Bishop's
initiative that invites all United Methodist congregations
to respond to the needs and receive the gifts of children
and the poor.
- Coordinating the "Kris Kringle" project in
December which provides Christmas presents to children
from poor families within our community.
- Assisting in coordinating the "CROP Walk",
held in October, raising money for worldwide and local
hunger projects.
- Providing information to volunteers for PADS sites which
are temporary shelters for the homeless run from October
through April of each year.
- Sponsoring our local "Relay for Life" teams,
an all night walk for cancer held in June to raise money
for the American Cancer Society and to increase awareness
of their services.
