Reparations Discussion with Special Guest Lyndsey Beutin
On August 5, 2020 Tim held a class to discuss the topic of reparations. Below is a video of the meeting. The first 5 minutes of the meeting were not recorded (Tim is still not a Zoom expert). The class included special guest Lyndsey Beutin.
Lyndsey Beutin is Assistant Professor of Communication Studies at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Her research focuses on the racial politics of communication and social justice. Her current book project explores how campaigns against human trafficking reproduce anti-blackness in the name of ending “modern day slavery.” She earned her PhD in Communication from UPenn and was a pre-doctoral fellow at the Carter G. Woodson Institute for African-American and African Studies at University of Virginia.
At McMaster, Lyndsey’s teaching focuses on centering histories of dispossession, resistance, and racial justice within core communication concepts such as technology, globalization, liberalism, capitalism, and sovereignty.
